Kota Bharu / Kuala Trengganu & Kuantan, 14 & 15 Oct 2012

After our heavy lunch at Yati's Ayam Percik, to know more about my lunch, please go to : (http://superbiker48.blogspot.com/2012/10/kota-bharu-morning-2pm-14-oct-2012.html)

We left Kota Bharu for Kuala Trengganu which is about 170km away via Bachok, Kampong Raja and Setiu. We arrived at Primula Hotel, Kuala Trengganu at about 4pm. We were pleasantly surprise to have our rooms fronting the beach!! Although it was the older block, we were pleased with the size of the room we had and the convenience of having to just walk out from our room straight to the beach....awesome!

Our huge & spacious room

Just outside our room...isn't it awesome?

On the right just outside our room...cozy and so romantic

This one is on our left...

The inviting pool
We stayed in the room for a short while and then headed to the beach. The sandy white beach was so inviting but the waves were a bit rough, rougher than that from the west coast. It being South China Sea, understandable. Here are a few photos...so serene and peaceful.

After a shower, we headed to Chinatown for an early dinner. Alas, our targeted outlet closed just over an hour ago!!! Will make sure I revisit the place the next time I am in town. The food looks authentic Trengganu Nyonya and oh so yummy i.e. the food in the pictures displayed on the banners. (hahaha...giving you a 'sneak preview' of the place I intend to dine at).

We stroll the place and finally settled for Bak Kut Teh (simply translated to pork ribs 'herbal' tea). It was tasty but what intrigued me more was the architecture of the shop and that on the opposite side of the road that dates back to the early 1940-50's, still in its original state....I love it that they have kept it as it. At least the next generation is able to see what it was during its glory days.

Entrance to Kuala Trengganu Chinatown

The blue awning aside, this is how the olden days house looks like. Roof is original tiles!!

This was the olden days ventilation system in a house.

Notice the small peep-hole? That's to see who is visiting from upstairs. Smart, eh?

a new coat of paint but the original wood is still strong and good!

We had wanted to walk the town but the drizzle made us retreat to our hotel. We ended up at the coffee lounge to enjoy a night cap before calling it a night. The next day, after in-house breakfast, we headed for Kuantan via Marang, Dungun & Kemaman. The coastal drive was pleasant and road conditions very good compared to the drive from Raub to Gua Musang as well as to Kota Bharu. To know more, read :

We traveled home after lunch in Kuantan. All in all, we traveled some 1,200 kilometers in 3 days and 2 nights! We had a great time bonding and it was a wise move to drive as it rained daily. Riding in the rain would dampen the spirits and caused inconveniences as we would then have to don the raincoats & pants plus it would be difficult to direct Rocker57 using the GPS from the rear. Although we do have a bluetooth on our helmets but lifespan of battery life is about 6 hours...so....

I think we seriously need to get a ZUMO GPS (water proof & versatile) mounted on the bike...then it will be "Have bike will travel"...get it? From an old movie "Have gun will travel"...errr...you don't know? Hmmm....then you are from the post baby boomer generation. Period!

Thank you for joining me on my expedition to the east coast. Do remember to join me again on our riding trip with 8-11 bikers come end October to Krabi. I'll make sure to take loads of pictures for your reading pleasure.

Until then....stay happy. Ciao!
