SEREMBAN KING'S BEEF NOODLE

The signage

King's Beef Noodle (KBN) is renowned in Seremban. KBN is a spin-off from the famous beef noodle in Seremban Central market. KBN belongs to the eldest son of the latter. It is managed by a husband and wife team for over 3 decades. On Feb 5, 2012 KBN finally closed its doors for good. Both husband and wife has decided to call it quits as age has caught up with them. With 3 grown up children & several grandkids, they want to spend their remaining years relaxing and traveling.

I had the good fortune to eat my last bowl of "Ngau Kon Hor" (dried beef meat in black sauce) on Feb 2, 2012 at around 2pm. Everything happens for a reason. My intention was to eat my favourite beef noodle after my dentist appointment. As luck would have it, my dentist was closed for lunch and would be back by 2.30pm. So I headed to KBN for lunch. Had I done my dental first, I would never have the luxury to savour my final bowl of beef noodle from KBN.

The chef & owner
She remembered me as I used to 'date' rocker57 for lunch at the very same shop that is now closed for good. We started chatting, catching up on lost time. By the end of my meal, she told me Sunday will be the last day she serves her famous beef noodle. "WHAT??!!! Are you for real?"  "YES!!!" She replied "Awww....should have told me before I finished my meal. I need to take a photo to remind me as well as to blog it". As luck would befall on me, two customers walked in. I quickly asked her to pose for me & manage to snap a picture of the famous KBN. Unfortunately, the patrons ordered it in soup form. Aiya...in hokkien we say " no fish, prawns oso can-la"

I had to make a quick exit as I had to rush for my dental appointment. I made a hasty group 'whatsapp' chat to my family. Quickly, my son & daughter placed their orders to pack some KBN home.

Immediately after my appointment, I rushed over to pack for my family...Alas...my luck has run dry. They were closed for the day. And so, my kids and Rocker57 did not get to savour the last of our favourite KBN.

Though KBN's sister has opened up in Kemayan Square under QUINN's, I still very much prefer KBN. The aroma & taste is stronger and noodle texture cooked just right. Well...as I 'witness' the retirement of my favaourite beef noodle, my dentist also informed me of his impending retirement in a year's time....Sigh, it finally sinked into me....I'm getting OLD!!!

Indeed, age is also catching up with me. In 6 days, I'll be half a century young. But, I do not feel old except for the slight memory lost on trivialities. Apart from that, I feel, act and think like a 40 year old. I'm in better shape now than I was a decade ago.
Soon, I'll be witnessing a lot of my old-time favourite joints closing down unless there is/are successors. Well, its life. We live on but cherish the bygones...
