Surin Beach; Phuket - Thailand : 21 Aug 2013

After settling in to our new home, we decided to take the buggy down to the beach. Too lazy to walk 5 mins down the beach and chose to be pampered instead. Catch, the name of the beach restaurant has a 'connection' with Ayara Hilltops Boutique Resort and Spa. We were given membership card upon registration. When you show your card, you get complimentary bath towels and free shower at Catch.

And you get a nice and fluffy bath towel to bask in the sun. We did that on the eve of our departure. Here you go :

Catch is the best looking beach restaurant in Surin beach. Also the most upmarket. Check out the place.

We checked out the entire stretch of Surin beach. Check out the awesome white sandy beach. Clean and so inviting. It was very windy, sending plastic chairs moving but not flying...

Check out the long stretch of stalls, cafes and restaurant fronting the beach. Low peak season.

I like the picture above very much. Couldn't get to eat here as it was closed. So, we ate our dinner at this place instead - Twin brothers. Aahhh...dinner by the beach...so romantic.

Ladna Kueh Teow, anyone? The beef was tender and juicy. Huge serving of Brussel sprout & cabbage. Apart from that, the gravy was sweet, quite bland and a tad too starchy.

Despite its plain look, the Pineapple rice was alright. If you want it served in a halved pineapple, it costs 50THB more! We opted not to have the pineapple. Why pay extra 50THB for something you can't eat and merely for display and to be discarded later on. Clearly it is tailored more for westerners than Asians. As the night wore on, we were obviously the only Asian around.

The green curry was quite good. If it had lesser and thicker gravy it would have been perfect. Again, the gravy is sweet. Common in Thailand to add sugar to their food.

We walked a bit more, bought some fruits at the fruit stall and then strolled back home.

On the way back, we checked out the taxi fare signboard just across our hotel. We also checked out the rates in the hotel for taxi fare to airport. It was 300baht more. We decided to walk across tomorrow to take a cab to Patong town. Tell you more what happened in the next blog post.

We checked out the hotel facilities again on our own and then decided to head on home to test our outdoor jacuzzi. YAY!!!!

Somehow without the jet spray, bubbles are hard to form. And it took a longtime to fill the huge jacuzzi. After the warm bubble bath, we went indoors to watch TV and then called it a night.

ZZZzzz...

Come back soon for Day 2 in Phuket. We visit Patong & Phuket town tomorrow.  Until then...

Good to see that there were all kinds of eateries; from upmarket to stalls along the beach. Pity the wooden place was closed. It looked really inviting.
Must have been a huge jacuzzi!!!
Thanks for the food update.Wish places would just serve authentic local cuisine. After all that is what most travellers want!

Elle Revett...yes, we didn't get authentic Thai food at Surin beach. And I wouldn't want to eat at the stall lest we get tummyache.
