Pizza Uno, Taipan Subang
I was introduce to Pizza Uno way back in 2002 or 2003. I was working for a Multinational F&B manufacturer then. Food tasting was part of our routine. After my first visit, Pizza Uno remains one of the best Italian restaurant I've eaten in Malaysia.
Of course, I have tasted many others and yet many other Italian outlets yet to try. Somehow, Rocker57 and I often compare the food quality of other restaurants to the ones we've had in Pizza Uno. Below are some of our all time favourite.
Pictured above is a must have. Their Tiramisu is a 'killer'. As you take in your first bite....most of my die-hard Tiramisu 'addict' friends (I brought them there) goes "uuummmphhhh" and then they stop talking. Next, they take in the following bite and so on. Firstly, the generous share of chocolate dust gets caught in your throat, then the alcohol hits you followed by the espresso soaked ladyfinger and mascarpone cheese melts in your mouth...oozing with goodness. Serious!
For Antipasti, you have to have ~~ The Champinones con ajo that is mushroom cooked in olive oil & garlic. It is simply tasty. Comes with few slices of bread for you to dip it. You may be turned off with the oil floating but olive oil is heart healthy. Take my word, eat the mushroom and then you tell me if it isn't delectable. Deal?
Another good antipasti to order is their bruschetta. Comes in two variants, tomato with basil and mushroom. The grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil, salt and pepper adds to the crunchiness while the toppings add flavour to the otherwise plain bread. O-la-la!!!
Next is a MUST HAVE for me and Rocker57 whenever we dine at Pizza Uno. Caesar Salad with beef bacon. The combination of Romaine lettuce, eggs, croutons dressed with parmesan cheese, olive oil, worchester sauce, lemon juice, garlic and black pepper is 'out of this world'. Again, we have eaten in many eateries but thus far, nothing matches this awesome yet simple salad. Don't believe me? Go try it then if there is some place (in Malaysia, ya) better, please drop me a line. I will definitely want to try at the recommended outlet. Really!
The classic cheese cake is also a mouth watering dessert. The salty yet sweet jam adds some tangyness to the otherwise sweet dessert. The cookie at the bottom and chocolate in between makes the entire dessert, sweet, sour, crunchy, salty and oohhhh...umami!
This unclear pix was taken by a Samsung phone.(friend's unit) Doesn't matter. The photo did not do justice to the food. Albeit a plain looking spaghetti, the taste is simply " "
Yup! As I've mentioned before in my other blog post on Shakespeare, this is by far my BEST Aglio Olio! It comes in plain or with prawns(the latter extra cost, obviously, duh!). Despite having visited the outlet since 2002/3, I only started to eat this in late 2006 and got hooked since. All the friends that I introduced it to is of the same opinion as me. *thumbs up*
Apart from these, please also try their Pizzas - Calzone & Uno's special. The former pizza takes the shape of a currypuff. Lots of gooey cheese & mushroom. Remember how you use to pull your chewing gum from your mouth with your fingers? Well, how about that...the same kind of feeling with Calzone. Awesome, right?
Their other pastas like Carbonara, Marinara and Lasagna are just as good. And oh, do try their mushroom and pumpkin soup too.
Managed to take some of its decor, just so you know you have come to the right place....hehehe.

Shakespeare, SS15 Subang Jaya ~ 3 Sept 2013
Shakespeare is alive??? No, of course not! Here in Subang Jaya SS15 there is a bakery that is named after Shakespeare. It was opened sometime ago but I kept forgetting to try it out. My kids (adults in their own right, actually) and I decided to pay it a visit on 3rd September.
Shakespeare is tucked at the corner opposite Subang Square i.e diagonally opposite the former Taylor's Business School (since moved to Taylor's Lakeside Campus University), you can't miss the white coloured building. It is directly behind Salmon Steak house.

Not knowing what to expect, we checked out the menu placed outside the premises. Hmmm...menu looks ok, price reasonable.
If you were to ask me... the signboard is too colorful, too cluttered and an overdosed of info. From the looks of things, this is clearly an in-house job.
Well, I'm not here on marketing promotion critic visit, so let's leave the ads alone, shall we?
For smokers, fret not, they cater for you as well - al fresco with good shades and potted plants to take in all those carbon footprints you leave behind.
And so, we stepped in.
As you enter, this will be the welcoming sight on your right. If you go too early, the buns and pastries aren't ready. Best time to go is about 10am.
I went there on 3 occasions, once with the kids, then with Rocker57 as he has not been there and another time again with Rocker57 to try it again. Pix taken on three occasions.
The picture (left) is what welcomes you after the payment counter (left side of the premises as you enter). Fronting the counter are the seating area, divided into 2 sections.
And then, you will have a huge headache!! Why? Spoilt for choice!!! Let me show you what they have :
Have you wiped off your drool, yet? Hehehehe... On the last visit, Rocker57 bought a walnut bun and a chocolate bun...it was heavenly. Really good. We are surely going back for more.
Now, back to their breakfast. Starts from 8am. Prices from RM7.50 - RM12.50. Add RM2.50 for a cup of coffee or tea.
My son's breakfast bonanza@ RM12.50. It was quite good. The cubed potato with skin is cooked with really delectable salsa. The mushroom lightly sauteed with a hint of black pepper was really good. The mixed omelet was cooked to perfection with taste of milk and eggs. Nice.
My Tuna Mushroom Croissant @ RM8.80 was really good. Generous serving of tuna with sauteed mushroom, lettuce & cucumber. All meals comes with a side of salads.
When I was done, you could easily use my plate to do a bit of make-up touch up...squeaky clean. Yup, TGiF...as in This Glutton Is Full. LOL!!!
My daughter had Scrambled Egg Croissant @ RM8.80. It was just as good as mine.
We had 3 drinks : and the "damage" was....
RM 43.60.
Note : No GST or service tax.
Almost all the staff are foreigners. If not mistaken from Myanmar.
On a separate visit, Rocker57 and I had this :
Rocker57 ordered the Omelet @ RM9.80 while I re-ordered the Tuna Mushroom Croissant on the 3rd visit. I did not eat on the second visit as I was quite full then.
All in all, it is value for money compared to other joints that we have eaten before. Parking will be a problem in SS15, so best to go early or park at Subang Square.
Our whole family went again on 17 Nov 2013 for dinner, our 4th visit since 3rd September. This was what we ordered :
Angry Pizza, anyone?
Despite the miserable look, it was really good. Lots of cheese & flavourful. The pizza base was really soft and fresh baked thin crust style, our favourite style. We all loved the taste. Cost - RM15.80
My daughter and son had these (pictures, below). One was fish while the other was chicken. Side dishes were a choice of pasta either Aglio Olio or Neapolitan. Pictured here (fish) was my son's set dinner. For RM19.80, it comes with a free drink. Pictured below that is Rocker57 and my shared food. My daughter had the same whole chicken drumstick set dinner, only difference was that her pasta was Aglio Olio.
The chicken was really good. Well marinated, lightly coated with flour, fried to perfection. The meat was easily cut, moist, succulent and flavourful. The Neapolitan was really tasty with lots of tomato puree, button mushroom, diced carrot and lightly spicy. Tasty.
The fish pattie was lightly coated with flour & deep fried. It was cooked just right. No fishy smell, they were generous too with the tartar dressing. I liked it.
Meanwhile, Rocker57 and I shared this : Beef Aglio Olio at RM15.80. The spaghetti was cooked al dante, generous servings of beef bacon, garlic, mushroom and just the right spiciness. Not too oily. A good dose of Parmesan cheese topping. Apart from another restaurant that serves exquisite Aglio Olio (to be revealed soon), I think this is by far the second best Aglio Olio Rocker57 and I have eaten.
You see, we love Aglio Olio. We even went in search of it when we were in Italy back in 2009 but nothing compares to the soon to be revealed best Aglio Olio we have eaten thus far.
Until the next post....Stay healthy and happy always. Bon apetit!

Sin Leong Huat, Shah Alam
I was introduced to Sin Leong Huat back in early 2000. The quality and taste remained the same since. This year, I decided to get my foodie buddies to try it out. The fish 'swimming' in soup was really delectable. The fish was really fresh and rid of the 'fishy' smell. Generous serving of wood ear fungus, a few slices of salted veggy and some chinese mushroom, the name I know in Cantonese but unable to get the English moniker. Its the long beige color thingy that looks like bean sprouts but without a head. After we devoured the fish and drank the soup, only the fish bone was left to be seen. Yummy!!! FYI, it is not steamed but fish is soup, OK.
By the way, the chef also added 1 or two bird's eye chilli (uncut) for flavour. Such details for perfection.
Next, we had this veggy sauteed in oil and garlic.
Followed by clams (Malaysians call this la-la) cooked in premium rice wine broth. It was really really good, both the fresh la-la and the broth. The julienne ginger added aroma and taste to the entire dish. *thumbs up* from my buddies.
This is Sin Leong Huat's house specialty called chicken boxing. Well marinated drummets coated in flour and then deep fried. The spicy, sour and sweet sauce add an addictive 'kick' to the dish. The skin was crunchy while the flesh was moist and succulent. Perfect! So perfect, we ordered an extra serving. Goes well if you are drinking beer or wine....Ohhh...just the look and thought of it makes me hungry....aren't you drooling? I am. My tissue is soaked! Hehehehe.
And then, we had prawns cooked in salted egg yolk (FYI for my foreign blog readers - salted egg yolk is from the duck's egg and not chicken egg). Honestly, I can't recall the taste as we had this back in March. But I can recollect that my friends said it was good as you can taste the salty egg yolk, the flavourful curry leaves and the tinge of spiciness from the cut bird's eye chili. The prawn shells were crispy and edible. That much I can remember.
This little roasted thingy is quail. This was really to-die-for. It was well marinated, crispy skin, tender and moist flesh...very flavourful and not gamey at all. After we were done with this dish..only the tiny bones were seen and nothing else! As I had pre-ordered, everyone had half a birdie each. Finger licking good this dish, no need for condiments or chili to go with this. YUMMY!
And the highlight of the entire trip is this strange looking thing. What is it? It's German pork knuckles!!! The owner and executive chef David Chai worked in German for over a decade and he has perfected this dish in his own style. Notice the brown sauce in the bowl at the background of the pork knuckles dish...that is the special sauce to complement this dish. Ewww....so fat, so disgusting! Yea, right! That was my first reaction when I was introduced to it.
But all I ask of you is PLUZZZZ just take 1, yes as in ONE bite...(take the skin, fats and lean meat together with a dash of the sauce) then tell me what you think. Amongst our gang...we too have weight watchers and "cholesterol-counters" and 'health freaks" and what have you. In the end....EVERYONE, yes...everyone sank their teeth into this heavenly 'sinful' dish. And was quiet. Silence means consent, no? Well, in this case, it was.
The skin is so crunchy, you can hear your friend bite into it from across a round table seated for 10. Next, the fats are so soft, not gooey or revolting at all, followed by the well marinated tender meat....Awww....you don't know what you are missing if you choose to ignore my recommendation. Just describing the dish is making me a reading glutton! Oh well...I may have perhaps over exaggerated a little but trust this glutton...it is good coming from someone who abstains from fatty things for over 15 years now.
Ok, OK!..I have seen the food, now tell me how to get there....see, I can read minds too. LOL!!!
