Mr 7211 - Harley Davidson Sportster - 4 June 2013

Hello, Mr 7211!!! 

Incidentally, Mr7211 is a Harley Davidson (H-D). Model - Sportster Superlow XL 883. This is the entry range for H-D. Other range includes Softail, Touring, Revolution and Dyna. For more information on each range, check out types of H-D bikes  As we are first timer on cruising bikes, Sportster is ideal. Sportster by itself has a few models. A brand new Sportster (this model) is sold at RM94,000 by H-D sole authorized dealer; Naza Prestige Bikes Sdn Bhd. However, Mr 7211 is a re-conditioned bike. Meaning it is a used bike imported from the USA and re-registered in Malaysia as 'new'. Hence, it is much cheaper.

Mr 7211 was sold at RM80,000. We negotiated it down to RM71,000. Inclusive of registration, roadtax, insurance, new back seat and legpegs, the new cost of Mr7211 is now RM75,000.

We are not done yet with Mr 7211 because he is not "fully clothed" as we still need to install a windshield, back rest and carriage. That will set us back another RM6,000 at the least!!! At the end of the day, once he is fully "attired" its "new-new" cost would be RM81,000!!!

After a small 'face-lift' that is a back seat & pillion legpegs added, Mr 7211 is good to go!!! And I can ride pillion!! YAY!!! Vrooooom, Vroooom.....heyyyy....I can feel the 'vibrations' !!! Is it an earthquake? (Nope, Thank mother nature that Malaysia doesn't have any earthquake) It is sinking hole? NOPE...just Mr 7211 sensational vibrations....next blog, I will video the sound for you, okay?

Welcome home Mr 7211. You are lucky to have a good owner - Rocker57. He will take good care of you just like how he takes care of ZacBoy (our other bike - Kawasaki Z1000SX). 

Now, you can proudly 'claim' that you have a brother called Mr7211, eh ZacBoy?!?! ZacBoy, don't you worry, Mr7211 is second to you simply because ZacBoy is Rocker57's favourite, for now....hehhehe... Heeey... did I just talk to a machine??? Boy oh boy...am going bonkers!!! Too much vrooming is bad for the brains...the vibrations, bumps and high speed does get to you, doesn't it??? LOL

Fraser Hill Ride, 2 June 2012

Welcome to GAP! This is THE entrance heading to Fraser Hill or Bukit Fraser. This place is called Gap, its only a short stretch of road. After half a century, I only now come to know that the foothill of Fraser is Gap or the Gap as the bikers call it. Well, never too late to learn and I do learn new things every so often.

After yesterday's fiasco i.e. I erred in leading Rocker57 to Fraser Hill, instead we ended up at Kuala Selangor, OOPs!! We made good this time around with guidance & support from our biker buddies. Thank you, guys!

We gathered at the MRR2 (aka Middle Ring Road 2) Shell petrol station at 7.45am, enroute to Bentong for breakfast. We used the Karak Highway or E8 that links Central to the East Coast of Malaysia. After the Bentong toll, take the first left turn. That will lead you into Bentong town. We stopped at our usual haunt - Restoran Big House.

After breakfast, Sethu led the team to Fraser Hill as he was up there just two weeks ago. From Bentong, take the road that will lead you to Raub. Just a few kilometers from Bentong, you'll see a signboard to Fraser Hill that says turn left to Fraser Hill. This stretch of road is approximately 66km...a long & winding road up & downhill. Pretty shady and cooling despite it being almost mid morning. 

In the approximately 1.5hr ride....seriously, only 8, yes EIGHT cars passed us by!!! Boy oh boy, the long and winding road is surely not only long and winding...it was deserted and lonely too.

Little did I know that the trek from the junction to Fraser Hill was gonna cost me an aching butt and a vow never to ride 'anywhere' uphill or downhill where the road is winding. What's more...poor road conditions like pot holes, landslides, gravels on the asphalt added more salt to the wound....alas...poor me. I had to balance myself either holding on to the Monokey bar (where it holds the panniers) or push myself away from the fuel tank so as not to add weight to Rocker57's arduous endeavour. 

The bike alone is 215kg! With the both of us and our full protective gears (padded Jackets, knee guards, boots, gloves & two units of 1.3kg helmets each)...easily he is riding with a whopping 350kg load!!! That's one heavy load, mind you. Lucky we did not bring along the panniers, else it would be even heavier!!! The many curves and bends plus bad road conditions made us slowed down a lot or risk mishaps. We were averaging between 40-60km most of the time. Thankfully, everyone arrived at the Gap, safely.

Rocker57 and I are BIG Valentino Rossi fans. He is a multiple motogp champion and his bike is number....46!! Well, the Ducati pictured here belongs to Sam, while the AGV helmet belongs to 'alien Alex'. So, when you add 1+1, you get??? = 46!!! Rossi, Rossi, Rossi! Anyway, starting this year, Rossi is no longer with Ducati. He has since returned to Yamaha where he'd achieved many accolades in the past. 

This is a strange combination indeed. From what I know of Sam, he doesn't watch motogp nor know much about the sport or the bikers yet he sprayed or rather sticker-ed his bike in support for Rossi. And 'alien Alex' likes Jorge Lorenzo also from motogp but sports Rossi's helmet! Strange indeed. Hmmm....well, sometimes mixed 'nuts' are good for the soul, no? Heeee Heee.... 

We spent only a short while in Fraser Hill. We had objectives to meet. So, the team waited for Rocker57 and I to check out some accommodations rates while they 'chill' and chat over drinks in one of the cafe nearby the police station. In haste, I did not have time to take pictures as I wanted to save the occasion until I am really there for "cuti-cuti Malaysia".

By the way, there is only 1 way up and 1 way down. Previously, there was only 1 road leading to Fraser Hill, so traffic is directed based on even and odd hours. Can't remember whether even hour is for going up or coming down. Anyway, now...anyone can go up at any hour and leave at your pleasure. But! But, if you see a bus or truck going up, suggest you wait 20 minutes before going up, else...you'll be chugging your way up!

We took a different route back to Kuala Lumpur via Kuala Kubu Baru. This way was much more pleasant but I still think that I'll not ride up winding roads ever again...oh well...I may change my mind, who knows? Nowadays, with age, memory failure is getting more rampant, so maybe just maybe I may 'forget' my ordeal and go for another try....right? Errr....so not sure!

After lunch in Kuala Kubu Baru, we used the Bukit Beruntung way to lead us back to the PLUS highway. From there, to each its own and everyone Zoooooom home.

A few quick text messages later...glad everyone was home safely. 

What is it I hear??? A loud Vrooom Vrooom in the making? Yes...be patient....you will hear it roar!!! LOL.

Watercolour & Harley shopping Ride; 18 May 2013

First stop before our shopping spree for a Harley, we stopped at Watercolours; Gourmet Bakery & Cafe at Mont Kiara for our breakfast. For address, map & operating hours check out the link ~ map to watercolour

Watercolour opened since October 2010. They serve breakfast, brunch and sandwiches. You can park your bikes just outside the cafe along the street. Great for bikers as they can keep a watchful eye on their bikes and able to eat in peace.

MY all day breakfast! All organic!

I, the rose amongst all the thorns (Alex, Rocker57, Ryan & Sam) had the biggest breakfast! I had to have the all day breakfast for RM25.00 which came with orange juice and coffee. The scramble eggs was creamy and fluffy with a good dash of black pepper. The hash brown was lightly fried but was crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. The potato was well-seasoned and it was delicious. I am not a hash brown fan but I ate both pieces!! The sausage and ham tasted fresh and was delectable. If I am not wrong, the sausage and ham was blanched and not fried, hence it retains its meaty flavour but minus the gamey smell. It was a refreshing change to have oranges and grapes for greens. I read somewhere that we should consume at least 7 different colors of vegy in a day...in this meal alone, there is 5!!!

I ate everything except 1 piece of the bread...I am a T-Rex, remember??? This awesome plate of goodies lasted me until dinner! No wonder they called it ALL DAY breakfast....because it actually lasts an entire day!!! Awesome way to save cost :)

We were all happy with the rich, aromatic illy coffee. I for one was elated that I had a special cup/mug compared to theirs...See my cafe latte... I was intrigued by the unique cup.

Nice to see but it is not practical because the weight of the coffee makes it difficult to hold the cup. Perhaps I didn't know how to hold it? Anyway, in Malaysia, when one orders for a "latte" - it is understood that you will get a shot of espresso with steamed milk. But if you are in Italy, please DO NOT ask for a latte. I learnt it the hard way. So used to ordering latte in Malaysia, I too ordered latte in Rome. The waiter asked me twice if I really wanted latte and on both occasion I said yes. Guess what I got? Milk! Hahahaha..... The next day, Rocker57 made the same error and yet again, we had milk!

Watercolour's service on that particular day was really slow. My meal was the last to be served and I had to remind them twice. All the guys had polished off their plates and my meal was nowhere to be seen. However, the owners came over to apologize for the delay but gave no explanation. As the crowd started to walk in, we had to give up our chairs (where we normally place our expensive apparels & helmets) for other patrons. As our 'territory' was fast shrinking, we decided to head out to Kampung Melayu Subang. Whatever for???

We learnt that for the past 3-4 months, G-Mart Corporation Sdn Bhd has been importing Harley Davidson from the United States. So, we rode out to check out if any suited our budget and taste...Vrrroooom, all four bikers rode from Mont Kiara to Kampung Melayu Subang.

This IS the bike that Rocker57 always wanted - THE SUPERBIKE! Hence, he couldn't resist sitting on one and insisted I took his picture. Because I'd wanted to ride with him, he had to compromise with Kawasaki Z1000SX a super touring bike. Awww...ain't he considerate and caring? Indeed he is. What a big sacrifice for him just to make room for me. For non-bikers, FYI, the R1 is a Superbike with 1 seater...no pillion!It's the one raced at motogp. Hahahaha...not THIS particular one but....well, you get the drift.

We spent a fair bit of time checking out the 20+ bikes. The director; Musa allowed us to test ride 2 bikes but must be within the compound as the bikes aren't registered and has no insurance. The booming sound of the signature Harley exhaust was really enticing and invigorating for ardent bikers. I LOVE the sound of Harleys....they make me happy and feel "rugged", a word hardly used these days. I've always fancied Harleys over Superbikes. Rocker57 and I are like chalk & cheese, yet we complement each other. Isn't it great?

We were keen on one particular bike but decided to sleep over it due to space constrain at the home front, the financial impact and if we wanted one or needed one. Frankly, the last reason is not a reason, just an excuse...hehehehe....

In any case, I took measurements to see how we can fit two bikes and 4 cars in our tiny abode. To know the final outcome....stay tune...

Kuala Selangor Ride & Auntie Kopitiam, 1 June 2013

Today, we rode on our own. We were supposed to go to Seremban. But at the crack of dawn, Rocker57 changed his mind and wanted to check out Fraser Hill instead as we've planned to go there for our annual 'cuti-cuti Malaysia'. Relying on me for directions, and me not being a morning person plus the last I'd visited Fraser Hill was over a decade ago....for sure...we got LOST!!! Hehehehe...

Instead of Fraser Hill, we ended up in Kuala Selangor! Actually, after 20 mins passing through Rawang, I knew we were lost so we decided to go to Kuala Selangor instead. I may have passed it by but never truly check out the town. So, Kuala Selangor it is.

After a short sight-seeing of the township, we decided to stop at Auntie Kopitiam for breakfast since it wasn't crowded and I liked the outlook of the cafe.

First order of the day, I had to have 2 soft boiled eggs! I just know they will serve it just right. And both of us have to have our 'neat' kopi-O or black coffee without sugar. Did we get what we wanted? Check this out :~

The eggs were boiled just the way I like it but instead of it being served traditionally in two saucers (1 for the boiled eggs and another for you to drink/slurp it from) it came in a plastic cup "ready to eat". Aaaah...just the way I like it because I always find it hard to crack open boiled eggs as I find them too hot to handle. Ahem...FYI, I normally order eggs when Rocker57 or my son is around, that way, they'll crack them for me. Clever, eh?

Next, I checked out what they have in-store....

And so....we ordered??? This-lah....

The one on the back ground is 'mee goreng' (fried yellow noodle). It was simple yet tasty. The one on the foreground is 'mee siam' (fried vermicelli cooked in Thai style). It was so-so only. Both came in small servings about 2/3 the size of my fist. But I believe the size is just right as then you can try the 'kuih - muih' or local delicacies like those pictured above. Well...we did not try any.  If I want to ride for many years to come, I need to watch my weight, else I would have to 'upgrade' my jackets, pants, etc. And it can be a costly affair. Uh-uh...no way!

The cost? 2 black coffee, 2 soft boiled eggs & 2 packs of noodles cost.......RM7.00 only! So so reasonable. If I am not wrong, 2 Omega soft boiled eggs in Oldtown Kopitiam is already RM3.50 and 1 coffee alone is also RM3.50 so this to me is Super Cheap! 

I took the closed up shot of this 'kopi' cup because it was how I remembered it when I was little. Stained and cracked due to frequent use. Awesome. The cup & saucer's designs are also like those in the olden days. Authentic to the max!!! Since Auntie Kopitiam was established in 1935, perhaps it is the real stuff, eh?

Incidentally, just 10 mins there, the entire place was filled with people of all races. The food served there has no pork or perhaps even halal, hence it was a 1 Malaysian affair. Many malay families were there together with Indian & Chinese alike. We even had to give up 2 of our chairs for the patrons. 2 boys were eyeing for our table and chairs while I was enjoying my cuppa. Guilt ridden and the need to ride on, I gave up our table to them, much to their delight. 

When I went to pay the bill at the counter, I saw some write-ups of the outlet. I happened to see the proprietor and founder washing dishes just behind the payment counter. She was well dressed, hair nicely done & face with carefully applied make-up. Even the eye shadow matches her clothings!! If one didn't know any better, one would think she is a 'tai-tai' just going to wash her hands. She is by far, one of the best dressed 'dishwashing' lady I've ever encountered!
