Sin Leong Huat, Shah Alam

I was introduced to Sin Leong Huat back in early 2000. The quality and taste remained the same since. This year, I decided to get my foodie buddies to try it out. The fish 'swimming' in soup was really delectable. The fish was really fresh and rid of the 'fishy' smell. Generous serving of wood ear fungus, a few slices of salted veggy and some chinese mushroom, the name I know in Cantonese but unable to get the English moniker. Its the long beige color thingy that looks like bean sprouts but without a head. After we devoured the fish and drank the soup, only the fish bone was left to be seen. Yummy!!! FYI, it is not steamed but fish is soup, OK.

By the way, the chef also added 1 or two bird's eye chilli (uncut) for flavour. Such details for perfection.

Next, we had this veggy sauteed in oil and garlic.

Followed by clams (Malaysians call this la-la) cooked in premium rice wine broth. It was really really good, both the fresh la-la and the broth. The julienne ginger added aroma and taste to the entire dish. *thumbs up* from my buddies.

This is Sin Leong Huat's house specialty called chicken boxing. Well marinated drummets coated in flour and then deep fried. The spicy, sour and sweet sauce add an addictive 'kick' to the dish. The skin was crunchy while the flesh was moist and succulent. Perfect! So perfect, we ordered an extra serving. Goes well if you are drinking beer or wine....Ohhh...just the look and thought of it makes me hungry....aren't you drooling? I am. My tissue is soaked! Hehehehe.

And then, we had prawns cooked in salted egg yolk (FYI for my foreign blog readers - salted egg yolk is from the duck's egg and not chicken egg). Honestly, I can't recall the taste as we had this back in March. But I can recollect that my friends said it was good as you can taste the salty egg yolk, the flavourful curry leaves and the tinge of spiciness from the cut bird's eye chili. The prawn shells were crispy and edible. That much I can remember.

This little roasted thingy is quail. This was really to-die-for. It was well marinated, crispy skin, tender and moist flesh...very flavourful and not gamey at all. After we were done with this dish..only the tiny bones were seen and nothing else! As I had pre-ordered, everyone had half a birdie each. Finger licking good this dish, no need for condiments or chili to go with this. YUMMY!

And the highlight of the entire trip is this strange looking thing. What is it? It's German pork knuckles!!! The owner and executive chef David Chai worked in German for over a decade and he has perfected this dish in his own style. Notice the brown sauce in the bowl at the background of the pork knuckles dish...that is the special sauce to complement this dish. Ewww....so fat, so disgusting! Yea, right! That was my first reaction when I was introduced to it.

But all I ask of you is PLUZZZZ just take 1, yes as in ONE bite...(take the skin, fats and lean meat together with a dash of the sauce) then tell me what you think. Amongst our gang...we too have weight watchers and "cholesterol-counters" and 'health freaks" and what have you. In the end....EVERYONE, yes...everyone sank their teeth into this heavenly 'sinful' dish. And was quiet. Silence means consent, no? Well, in this case, it was.

The skin is so crunchy, you can hear your friend bite into it from across a round table seated for 10. Next, the fats are so soft, not gooey or revolting at all, followed by the well marinated tender meat....Awww....you don't know what you are missing if you choose to ignore my recommendation. Just describing the dish is making me a reading glutton! Oh well...I may have perhaps over exaggerated a little but trust this glutton...it is good coming from someone who abstains from fatty things for over 15 years now.

Ok, OK!..I have seen the food, now tell me how to get there....see, I can read minds too. LOL!!!
